Tasha and Mel’s wedding marked two firsts for KNP, the first guerrilla wedding and the first civil union wedding. Illinois only just made civil union weddings legal at the start of June which was an exciting time for the LGBT community here in Chicago. Tasha and Mel, a really sweet couple, were finally able to have their wedding… an old Western themed event with their immediate family members and close friend.
The guerrilla aspect came into play when everyone invited converged upon the North Park Village Nature Center at the same time, like a spontaneous family reunion! Everyone walked onto the nature trails together, found a spot that felt right, and there Mel’s father (a judge) married Tasha and Mel. It was spontaneous, economical and lovely. Following the ceremony, the whole clan walked along the nature trails together enjoying the beautiful weather. Thank you Tasha and Mel for inviting me into your special day, I’ll never forget it!
